The Disruption o 1843[1] wis a schism[2] or diveesion[3] within the established Kirk o Scotland, in that 450 evangelical meenisters o the Kirk breuk awey,[4] ower the issue o the Kirk's relationship wi the State, tae form the Free Kirk o Scotland.[5] It cam at the end o a bitter conflict within the established Kirk, an haed huge effects nae anerly within the Kirk, but an aa upon Scots ceevic life.[6]
