A core ceety (中核市, Chūkakushi) is a class or category o Japanese ceety. It is a local admeenistrative diveesion creatit bi the naitional govrenment.[1] Core ceeties are delegatit mony functions normally carried oot bi prefectural govrenments, but nae as mony as designatit ceeties. Tae become a candidate for core ceety status, a ceety must satisfy the followin condition:

  • A population greater than 300,000.

Application for designation is made bi a ceety wi the approval o baith the ceety an prefectural assemblies.
