Carlos Castaneda (December 25, 1925[nb 1]–Aprile 27, 1998) wis an American author wi a Ph.D. in anthropology.

  1. Castaneda's birth name, as well as the date an location o his birth, are uncertain. Accordin tae a 1973 airticle in Time, U.S. immigration records indicates that Castaneda wis born Carlos Cesar Arana Castaneda on December 25, 1925 in Cajamarca, Peru.[1] In the airticle, Castaneda himsel claimed that he haed adopted the surname "Castaneda" later in life an that he had been born in São Paulo, Brazil. He an aa reportit his date o birth as December 25, 1935.[1] In ither accoonts he gae his date o birth as December 25, 1931.[2][3] A 1981 article in The New York Times statit that Castaneda "wis born Carlos Arana in a Peruvian moontain toun 66 years ago", indicatin a 1915 birth.[4] Most sources tend to favor the Peruvian birth and 1925 date.[5]
