The canton o Uri (German: Kanton Aboot this soond Uri ) is ane o the 26 cantons o Swisserland an a foondin member o the Swiss Confederation. It is locatit in Central Swisserland. The canton's territory covers the valley o the Reuss atween the St. Gotthard Pass an Loch Lucerne. The offeecial leid o Uri is (the Swiss variety o Staundart) German, but the main spoken leid is the Alemannic Swiss German dialect called Urner German (de). Uri wis the anerly canton whaur the childer in schuil haed to learn Italian as thair first foreign leid. But in the schuil year o 2005/2006 this wis chynged tae Inglis as in maist ither cantons. The population is aboot 35,000 o which 3,046 (or 8.7%) are foreigners.[3]
