The Atabapo Municipality is ane o the seiven municipalities (municipios) that mak up the soothren Venezuelan state o Amazonas an, accordin tae the 2011 census bi the Naitional Institute o Statistics o Venezuela, the municipality haes a population o 9,169.[1] The toun o San Fernando de Atabapo is the shire toun o the Atabapo Municipality.[2]

The Atabapo Municipality, accordin tae a 2007 population estimate bi the Naitional Institute o Statistics o Venezuela, haes a population o 10,625 (up frae 8,475 in 2000). This amoonts tae 7.4% o the state's population.[3] The municipality's population density is 0.4 inhabitants per square kilometre (1.0/sq mi).[4]

The mayor o the Atabapo Municipality is Nelsón Cayupare, electit on 31 October 2004 wi 38% o the vote.[5] He replaced Nepomuceno Patiño shortly after the elections.[6] The municipality is dividit intae three pairishes; Ucata, Yapacana, an Caname (previous tae 18 Dizember 1997, the Atabapo Municipality conteened anerly a single pairish).[2]
