McDonald is the director o the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute an haulds the Gordon an Patricia Gray Chair in Pairticle Astropheesics at Queen's Varsity in Kingston, Ontario. He wis awairdit the 2015 Nobel Prize in Pheesics jyntly wi Japanese pheesicist Takaaki Kajita.
