Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek[note 1] (/ˈleɪvənhʊk/, Dutch: [ɑnˈtoːni vɑn ˈleːuə(n)ˌɦuk] (
listen); October 24, 1632 – August 26, 1723) wis a Dutch tradesman an scientist.

- ↑ The spellin o Leeuwenhoek's name is exceptionally varied. He wis christened as Thonis, but always went bi Antonj (correspondin wi the Inglis/Scots Antony). The final j o his gien name is the Dutch lang i. Til 1683 he consistently uised the spellin Antonj Leeuwenhoeck (endin in –eck) when signin his letters. Throuoot the mid-1680s he experimentit wi the spellin o his name, an efter 1685 settled on the maist recognised spellin van Leeuwenhoek.[1]
