Ammonium nitrate is a chemical compoond, the nitrate saut o the ammonium cation. It haes the chemical formula NH4NO3, simplified to N2H4O3. It is a white crystal solit an is heichly soluble in watter. It is predominantly uised in agricultur as a heich-nitrogen fertilizer.[4] Its ither major uise is as a component o explosive mixtures uised in minin, quarryin, an ceevil construction. It is the major constituent o ANFO, a popular industrial explosive which accoonts for 80% o explosives uised in North Americae; seemilar formulations hae been uised in improvised explosive devices. Mony kintras are phasin oot its uise in consumer applications due tae concerns ower its potential for misuise.
