Mīr 'Ali-Shir Nava'i (9 Februar 1441 – 3 Januar 1501), an aa kent as Nizām-al-Din ʿAlī-Shīr Herawī [n 1] (Chagatai-Turkic/Persie: نظام‌الدین على‌شير علی‌شیر نوایی) wis a Turkic poet, writer, politeecian, linguist, mystic, an penter.[1] He wis the greatest representative o Chagatai leeteratur.[2][3]

In the early new Persie an the eastren contemporary variants o the Persie leid, thare are twa different vouels ī an ē which are shawn bi the same Perso-Arabic letter ی, an in the staundart transleeteration, baith o them are uisually transliteratit as ī. Houever, when the distinction o ī an ē is conseedert, his first name should be transleeteratit as Alī-Shēr.
