Aartselaar (auld spellin: Aertselaer) is a municipality locatit in the Belgian province o Antwerp. The municipality anerlie comprises the toun o Aartselaar proper. On Januar 1, 2006 Aartselaar haed a total population o 14,375. The total aurie is 10.93 km² which gives a population density o 1,316 inhabitants per km². The municipality o Aartselaar is locatit in the soothren ootskirts o Antwerp. It is kent for its 1801 windmill (Heimolen) as well as the cyclin race cried Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen.

Etymology

The oreegin o the name o the toun is obscure; the maist probable etymology refers tae "Arcelar", a clearin in the woods (laar) locatit near a border (archas).
