Viersen is a Kreis (destrict) in the wast o North Rhine-Westphalie, Germany. Neebourin districts are Cleves, Wesel, destrict-free Krefeld, Neuss, destrict-free Mönchengladbach, Heinsberg an the Dutch province o Limburg.

In 1816, the new Proushie govrenment creatit the destrict o Kempen. Oreeginally belangin tae the Regierungsbezirk Kleve, it wis dissolvit in 1822, an syne then haes belangit tae Düsseldorf. In 1929 the destrict wis enlairgit significantly an renamit Kempen-Krefeld.
In 1975 the destrict again chyngit its borders an wis renamit Viersen even though Kempen remained the caipital. Viersen ceety replacit Kempen as the caipital in 1984.
