It is the seat o the federal government an the heid o the public pouers.

On 13 April 2009, the National Assembly passed a law creatin the figure o a heid o government for the district which woud be designatit bi the President. On 14 Aprile 2009, Jacqueline Faria wis named Heid o Government o the Caipital District
