Vashkinsky Destrict (Roushie: Ва́шкинский район‎) is a admeenistrative[1] and municipal[3] destrict (raion), ane o the twinty-sax in Vologda Oblast, Roushie. It is locatit in the northwast o the oblast an borders wi Vytegorsky Destrict in the north, Kirillovsky Destrict in the east, an wi Belozersky Destrict in the sooth an wast. The aurie o the destrict is 2,900 square kilometers (1,100 sq mi).[4] Its admeenistrative centre is the landwart locality (a selo) o Lipin Bor.[2] Destrict's population: 8,089 (2010 Census preliminary results);[5] 10,002 (2002 Census);[9] 11,977 (1989 Census).[10] The population o Lipin Bor accoonts for 45.4% o the destrict's total population.[9]

Maist o the aurie o the destrict is in the Kema's drainage basin. The eastren an northeastren pairts o the destrict belang tae the basin o the Onega River, which flows tae the White Sea.

Thare are mony lochs in the destrict, the biggest o which are Loch Druzhinnoye, Loch Volotskoye, Loch Unzhinskoye, an Loch Pushtorskoye, aw belangin tae the basin o Loch Beloye.

In the course o the admeenistrative reform carriet oot in 1708 by Peter the Great, the aurie wis includit intae Ingermanland Govrenorate (kent syne 1710 as Saunt Petersburg Govrenorate). In 1727, separate Novgorod Govrenorate wis split aff. On 1 August 1927, Cherepovets Govrenorate wis abolisht an its aurie became Cherepovets Okrug o Leningrad Oblast. Simultaneously, the uyezds wur abolisht an Vashkinsky Destrict wis establisht. The admeenistrative centre o the destrict wis establisht in the veelage o Vashki, hence the name o the destrict.[13] On September 23, 1937, Vashkinsky District was transferred to newly established Vologda Oblast.[8] In 1938, the admeenistrative centre o the destrict wis muivit tae the selo o Lipin Bor.

On 1 August 1927, Kovzhinsky Destrict (wi the admeenistrative centre in the selo o Annensky Most[14]) an Sholsky Destrict (wi the admeenistrative centre in the selo o Zubovo[15]) wur establisht an aw. In 1937, they wur transferred frae Leningrad Oblast tae Vologda Oblast. In 1959, baith destricts wur abolisht.
