Van Maanen's starn (van Maanen 2) is a white dwarf. Oot o the white dwarfs kent, it is the third closest tae the Sun, efter Sirius B an Procyon B, in that order, an the closest kent solitary white dwarf.[10][11] Discovered in 1917 bi Adriaan van Maanen,[12] Van Maanen's starn wis the third white dwarf identified, efter 40 Eridani B an Sirius B, an the first that wis nae a member o a multi-starn seestem.[13]
