A stalagmite (UK /ˈstæləɡmt/ or US /stəˈlæɡmt/; frae the Greek σταλαγμίτης - stalagmitês, frae σταλαγμίας - stalagmias, "droppin, tricklin")[1] is a type o rock formation that rises frae the fluir o a cave due tae the accumulation o material depositit on the fluir frae ceilin drippins. Stalagmites mey be componed o amberat, lava, minerals, mud, peat, pitch, sand, an sinter.[2][3]
