Rakhya (Rahja, Roushie: Рахья) is an urban locality (an urban-teep dounset) in Vsevolozhsky Destrict o Leningrad Oblast, Roushie, locatit on the Karelian Isthmus northeast o Saunt Petersburg. Municipally it is incorporatit as Rakhyinskoye Urban Dounset, ane o the aicht urban dounsets in the destrict. Population: 3,188 (2010 Census);[2] 3,156 (2002 Census);[7] 3,316 (1989 Census).[8]

Torfyanaya railwey station wis open in the current aurie o the dounset (the name Torfyanaya oreeginates frae Roushie torf, for peat). The dounset aroond the station for a lang time did no hae ony name an wis kent as the Dounset No. 1. In 1911, the production stoppit, an in 1913 Korf dee'd. The station wis locatit in Shlisselburgsky Uyezd o Saunt Petersburg Govrenorate (syne 1913, Petrograd Govrenorate).[9]

The peat production resumit in the 1920s. In 1922, Torfyanaya railwey station wis renamit Rakhya railwey station, tae commemorate Jukka Rahja.[9] On 14 Februar 1923 Shlisselburgsky Uyezd wis mergit intae Petrogradsky Uyezd. In Januar 1924 the uyezd an the govrenorate wur renamit Leningradsky.[10]

On 1 August 1927, the uyezds wur abolished an Leninsky Destrict, wi the admeenistrative centre in the dounset o Vsevolozhskoye, wis established. The govrenorates wur abolished an aw, an the destrict wis a pairt o Leningrad Okrug o Leningrad Oblast.[11] On 19 August 1930 Leninsky Destrict wis abolished an mergit intae newly established Leningradsky Prigorodny Destrict wi the admeenistrative centre in the ceety o Leningrad. On 19 August 1936 Leningradsky Prigorodny Destrict wis abolished, an Vsevolozhsky Destrict, wi the admeenistrative centre in Vsevolozhskoye, wis established.[12] In 1946, the dounset aroond Rakhya railwey station wis made a urban-teep dounset an offeecially receivit the name o Rakhya.[9]

Currently, the main industrial enterprise in Rakhya is a paint-producin plant. The peat production haes been discontinued.[13]
