Prigorodny Destrict (Roushie: При́городный райо́н; Ossetic: Горæтгæроны район) is an admeenistrative[1] an municipal[2] destrict (raion), ane o the aicht in North Ossetie-Alanie, Roushie. It is locatit in the east o the republic. The aurie o the destrict is 1,460 square kilometers (560 sq mi). Its admeenistrative centre is the landwart locality (a selo) o Oktyabrskoye.[1] Population: 108,665 (2010 Census preliminary results);[3] 102,990 (2002 Census);[6] 75,017 (1989 Census).[7] The population o Oktyabrskoye accoonts for 9.6% o the destrict's total population.[3]

Unlike the rest o the republic whaur Osseties accoont for the majority o the population, the destrict haes a significant Ingush population. The destrict in its eastren pairt is considered a troublesome zone o the republic due tae the heich tensions atween the Ingush an Osseties.
The eastren pairt o Prigorodny Destrict uised tae be a pairt o Ingushetie (which wis a pairt o the Chechen-Ingush ASSR at the time), but it wis transferred tae North Ossetie in 1944 efter Stalin accused the Ingush o collaboratin wi the Nazis, deportit the entire population tae Central Asie, an dissolvit the autonomy. This led tae the present-day tensions, which stairtit efter the dissolution o the Soviet Union.
