In 1825 the destricts Gimborn an Homburg wur mergit tae the destrict Gummersbach. In 1932 it wis mergit wi the destrict o Waldbröl, an then for the first time cried Oberbergischer Kreis. The restructurin o the destricts in 1969/75 did then create the destrict tae its current extent.
