A monopoly (frae Greek monos μόνος (alone or single) + polein πωλεῖν (tae sell)) exists when a speceefic person or enterprise is the anly supplier o a pairticular commodity (this contrasts wi a monopsony which relates tae a single entity's control o a mercat tae purchase a gyud or service, an wi oligopoly which consists o a few entities dominatin an industry).[1]
