The Monarch wis released in 1975 alangside the Ford Granada, which wis identical save for the grille, taillichts an some interior an exterior trim. The base ingine wis Ford's 200 cid inline sax cylinder ingine, wi a 250 cid inline sax optional. V8 pouer came frae twa engines: the 302 cid an 351 cid Windsor. For 1981, the Granada wis replaced wi a smawer version on Ford's Fox platform, an the Mercury version teuk the Cougar name.

In the ware o 1977, Lincoln introduced the Versailles, based on the Granada/Monarch platform. The Versailles haed mony o the same luxury features as the Mercury Grand Monarch Ghia but it wis no successful. Lincoln's identity suffered when they began sellin a Granada-clone rather than a product that significantly differentiatit itself frae ither Ford products.
