Lidköping is a locality an the seat o Lidköping Municipality in Västra Götaland Coonty, Swaden. It haed 25,644 inhabitants in 2010.[1]

The toun o Lidköping is dividit bi the stream Lidan, flowin through the central ceety. The richt (eastren) side o it is cried the auld toun, an the left side is kent as the new toun.
The municipality o Lidköping is thegither wi its wastren neebour Götene locatit on the Läckö-Kinnekulle peninsulae. In association wi several lairge local companies, they hae a colloquial tourism company kent as "Götene-Lidköping Vänern Turist AB".

Lidköping got its chairter on 21 Julie 1446, an thus qualifees as ane o the nou defunct Ceeties o Swaden. The ceety airms are amaist as auld. The design haes variet throughoot the centuries, but haes aye depictit a seatit bishop. It is disputed if it depicts an actual bishop, but wis in the 20t century decidit tae be a depiction o the bishop Saunt Nicholas.
Aroond 1650, the ceety wis decidit tae be incorporatit intae the coontship o Jakob De la Gardie. Housomeivver, in 1655 the croun decidit tae regain admeenistration o the ceety. Tae mak up the loss, De la Gardie wis then given the richt tae foond a new ceety on the wastren side o the river, stairtin 1670. In 1672 the foondations were laid, an the new ceety grew rather quickly. In 1683, baith sides o the ceety Lidköping wur declared unifee'd bi the croun, who reclaimit possession o them baith an aw.
The auld toun burned doun in 1849, an lairge pairt o the new toun wur damagit an aw. Follaein the fire, baith touns wur rebuilt accordin tae a check pattern.
