Kiryat Ekron or Qiryath Eqron is an Israeli toun locatit on the coastal plain in the Central Region o Israel. Kiryat Ekron is named efter the biblical Ekron, a major Philistine ceety that ance existit at nearby Tel Mikne[1].

Kiryat Ekron wis foondit in 1948, as Kfar Ekron, at the steid o the Arab veelage Aqir, that wis destroyed durin the Israeli war o unthirldom. In November 1948, twa ma'abarot wur established on the veelage's lands; the Aqir ma'abara, an the Givat Brenner ma'abara. (Mazkeret Batya wis oreeginally cried Ekron, when foondit in 1880's. Its name wis chyngit tae Mazkeret Batya in 1887).
