Kashira (Roushie: Каши́ра‎) is a toun an the admeenistrative centre o Kashirsky Destrict of Moscow Oblast, Roushie, locatit on the Oka River 115 kilometers (71 mi) sooth o Moscow. Population: 41,870 (2010 Census preliminary results);[1] 40,898 (2002 Census);[4] 44,110 (1989 Census).[5]

Kashira wis first mentioned in 1356 as a veelage o Koshira (Кошира) namit efter the Koshira River (the day's Kashirka River). Housomeivver, 1619 is considered Kashira's foondation year, when the toun wis transferred frae the left bank o the Oka tae the richt bank some 5 km upstream an rebuilt (it wis badly damagit bi the Crimean Tatars in 1592 an 1596).
