Imrama
Imrama is the debut album o the Erse black metal baund Primordial. It wis originally released in 1995. In 2000, it wis re-issued bi Hammerheart Records wi twa bonus tracks. It wis reissued again, this time bi Metal Blade in 2009 as CD/DVD digipack in slipcase. It is a part o collector series o the first 4 albums reissues.
Immrama, meanin 'voyages' or literally 'rowings aboot' refers tae a category o medieval Erse Christian literature in which a protagonist sets aboot voyagin in penance for sins committit. Medieval catelogues o literature see this genre as contrasting wi Eachtra, 'expeditions' or 'adventures' in which the protagonist visits the Itherwarld o Erse traditional lore.
In Ireland, an owerwhelmingly Inglis speakin kintra, usage of the Erse leid is an ootward expression o Erse identity, which is a central theme o Primordial's aesthetic an appeal. Imrama, correctly pronounced wi a stressed first syllable an voiced labiodental fricative seicont 'm', is pronounced bi the baund themselves (as native speakers o Inglis, ignorant o the Erse leid an its orthography readin the wird woud) wi a stressed seicont syllable an bilabial nasal seicont 'm'.
