The harbour dunter (Phocoena phocoena) is ane o sax species o porpoise. It is ane o the smawest marine mammals. As its name implies, it stays close tae coastal auries or river estuaries, an as such, is the maist familiar porpoise tae whale watchers. This dunter eften venturs up rivers, an haes been seen hundreds o miles frae the sea. The harbour dunter mey be polytypic, wi geografically distinct populations representin distinct races: P. p. phocoena in the North Atlantic an Wast Africae, P. p. relicta in the Black Sea an Sea o Azov, an unnamed population in the northwast Paceefic an P. p. vomerina in the northeast Paceefic.[3]
