Dornod (Mongolian: Дорнод, literally "the East") is the eastemaist o the 21 aimags (provinces) o Mongolie. Its caipital is Choibalsan.

Population [edit]
Halh are the ethnic majority o the Dornod aimag, but Buryat ethnic group is 22.8% o population total (17,196 in 2000, census) concentratit in the northeastren sums o Dashbalbar, Tsagaan-Ovoo, Bayan-Uul, Bayandun an aimag caipital Choibalsan. There are several sma ethnic groups: Barga (populates Gurvanzagal an Hölönbuir sums), Uzemchin (are present in Sergelen, Bayantümen, Bulgan, Chuluunhoroot sums an Choibalsan), Hamnigan ethnic group (Bayan-Uul an Tsagaan-Ovoo sums).[2]

The aimag wis creatit durin the admeenistrative reorganisation o 1941 wi the name o Choibalsan, efter the communist leader Khorloogiin Choibalsan. The caipital, which previously haed been cried Bayan Tümen, receivit the name Choibalsan an aw. In 1963, the aimag wis given the current name Dornod.
