[edit] Sizeable Immigrant Population
The ceety haes a lairge Asian-born population, specifically Taiwanese, Koreans, Arabs an Iranians, evident in the ceety's mosque an pagodas. The Taiwanese government paid for the construction o the ceety's toun hall in exchange for Paraguayan support in the Unitit Naitions, hence the Taiwanese flag that flies on the buildin.
[edit] Economy
Ciudad del Este generates aboot 60% of Paraguay's GDP. It is the third lairgest free-tax commerce zone in the warld, efter Miami an Hong Kong, an — thegither wi Foz do Iguaçu — it is the heidquarters o the company that operates the nearbi Itaipu dam. The ceety's economy (an Paraguay's economy as well) relies heavily on the mood o the Brazilian economy, as 95% o Paraguay's share o the energy generatit bi the Itaipu Dam is sauld tae Brazil (for US$300 million), an that ivery day mony Brazilians cross the border tae buy less-expensive products[1] (US$1.2 billion, makstly electronics). Smugglin is a major occupation in the ceety, wi some estimates puttin the value o this black market at five times the naitional economy. Indeed, evidence indicates that some o the revenue generatit bi smugglin mey support criminal organizations based ootside the region, includin terrorist organizations.[2][3]
[edit] Transportation
Guarani Internaitional Airport, locatit in the suburb ceety o Minga Guazú, connects the ceety wi ither Sooth American destinations.
