The naitional banner o Uruguay (Pabellón Nacional) haes a field o nine equal horizontal stripes alternatin white an blue. The canton is white, chairged wi the Sun o Mey, frae which 16 rays exteit, alternatin atween triangular an wavy.[1] The banner wis first adoptit bi law on December 16, 1828 an haed 17 stripes till Julie 11, 1830, when a new law reduced the number o stripes tae nine.[2] The banner wis designed bi Joaquín Suárez.[2]
